Mel Russo was born and raised in Geneva New York around the shores of Seneca Lake. It was here that he was inspired to attend SUNY Brockport where he achieved his B.S. in Biology with a major concentration in fresh water studies. Mr. Russo has also done extensive graduate work at Cornell University and other graduate institutes where he continued his study of nature. In 1968 he became a biology and chemistry instructor at Romulus High School and later vested his retirement there in 1988. Throughout much of his teaching career he was also involved in agriculture on his family farm overlooking Cayuga Lake in the Town of Varick. During this time, Mel also ran a lake shore construction business during summers, mainly building docks. He also performed most of his own building and repairs around the farm. Coupled with his formal education, these hands-on experiences would prove to be a valuable tool in his new profession.
Mel became a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson in 1983 for a local Finger Lakes area firm and then acquired a full time Associate Broker status with the firm in 1988. Subsequently he established Senecayuga Properties in 1990 which became an LLC in 2003.
Broker/Owner Russo has lived, worked, and studied all of his life around the shores of Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake where he still owns a home and small farm. He is well known as a specialist in lake property but also has expertise in farms and country properties. He has however, sold all kinds of real estate in his 25 years of experience in the business. His excellent sales achievements, he claims, are not only because of his hard work ethic, but also because of his background in biology, chemistry, natural history, agriculture and just plain old hands-on experience about lake life.
In short, Mel Russo believes that buying, selling, and evaluating properties around the Finger Lakes involves a holistic approach to real estate sales. This involves an ability to effectively convey ideas about the lakes, the environment, the community, and the ecology of the Finger Lakes area as well as the improvements and implications imposed on the land by humans and other organisms. Mel says "There's no better place to live than in the Finger Lakes of Upstate, NY."
Mel is author of the Senecayuga Chronicles, which entail a series of many articles about various aspects of the Finger Lakes, often published with Senecayuga Properties, LLC advertisements.
